A week ago, 3-year-old Deonta' Howard was a typical toddler who loved playing outside. Now, he's a gunshot wound victim struggling to recover following the mass shooting in Cornell Square Park that injured him and 12 others.
Shamarah Leggett, 24, spoke to reporters outside Mt. Sinai Hospital where her son has been recovering for the past week after a bullet passed under his ear and out his cheek.
"As his mother, I can only be strong because he's strong," Leggett said Tuesday, according to DNAinfo Chicago. "He's doing better than I expected. He's moving around, playing -- he's back to Deonta'."
