Happy New Year
So who's happy?
• I'm not happy to be a year older.
• I know I'll not keep my resolutions.
• I know that going to some party won't cheer me up next week or next month.
So what's new?
• same debts
• same people
• same problems
• same job
• same world
This is what's new. There is only one point in history where the old became new: that was when Jesus, the Son of God, entered our world to make all things new.
"And he (Jesus) that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new." (Revelation 21:5)
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12)
Jesus can make you new.
There is only one point where a person becomes new: that is when Jesus Christ becomes your Lord and displaces your Self as master of your life.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
This is happiness.
Happiness is that clean feeling of having all your sin and guilt taken away.
"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered." (Psalm 32:1)
Happiness is having Jesus in control of your life.
"Whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he." (Proverbs 16:20)
Happiness is working hard to make the world the way God wants it.
"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." (1 John 5:4)
Happiness is knowing that no life circumstance that I encounter this new year will be able to separate me from the love of God.
"For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38, 39)
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God." (Romans 8:28)
Do you want this new life?
• Learn what Jesus has done. Read the Gospel of Mark in the Bible.
• Turn from your life without God.
• Invite Jesus into your heart.
• Join others who have this new life and worship regularly with them.
