Pacman
Praying for
Don Imus
At least Don Imus can take
comfort in knowing that he has Adam (Don't Call Me Pacman -- Or Else)
Jones' spiritual support. Imus, the syndicated radio host who was fired
for making racially and sexually insensitive remarks about the Rutgers
women's basketball team last year, set off another firestorm Monday by
asking "What color is he?" after hearing Jones' lengthy rap sheet. Told
that the Cowboys cornerback is African American, Imus said: "Well,
there you go. Now we know."
Told that the Cowboys cornerback is African American, Imus said: "Well, there you go. Now we know."
Jones responded to the Dallas Morning News on Monday night: "I'm truly
upset about the comments. Obviously, Mr. Imus has problems with African
Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it
accordingly. I will pray for him."
For his part, Imus said on the air Tuesday that he was misunderstood
while trying to make a point about the unfair treatment of blacks by
the legal system.
"What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no
reason," he said. "I mean, there's no reason to arrest this kid six
times. Maybe he did something once, but everyone does something once."
No doubt!
Imus called the criticism of his comments "ridiculous." "How insane
would I have to be?" he wondered aloud. "What would I be thinking?"
That's a good question.
